BingeNext's take
If you’re into crime dramas with a darkly comic twist, Hap and Leonard is a great pick. Set in the late 1980s East Texas swamps, it follows two best friends with very different backgrounds, Hap Collins, a white guy who can’t resist Southern women, and Leonard Pine, a gay, black Vietnam vet with a fiery temper. The show has a gritty, swamp noir vibe that feels both intense and oddly funny at times. With three seasons and just 18 episodes, it’s a manageable binge that mixes action and drama without dragging. The cast, including James Purefoy and Michael Kenneth Williams, brings a lot of depth to their roles, making the friendship between Hap and Leonard feel real and compelling. If you like shows like Reacher or Sons of Anarchy, this one’s worth a try for its unique blend of humor and grit.
