Checked September 9, 2026. Every drama below aired at least part of a season in 2026, with dates from the platform listings, because a list headed with a year should contain that year. Two of them finished for good this spring, which makes them the easiest recommendations on the page: you can start and finish without waiting on anyone.
Where each streams may change, and the title page on BingeNext shows current US options. I have flagged which shows are complete, which are mid-run, and which are still waiting on a date.
Finished this year
The Bear closed out with season five on Hulu, May 5 to June 25, 2026, eight episodes. Five seasons, and the last one finally lets its characters stop punishing themselves. It shares the family-restaurant chaos with nothing else on television, and its half-hour episodes carry more weight than most hour-long dramas manage. Choose it if you want a complete run with a real ending. Skip it if constant overlapping shouting is a problem for you.
Euphoria ran season three on HBO from April 12 to May 31, 2026, four years after season two, and it is listed as the show's last. The time jump forward is the smartest thing it does, letting the cast play adults rather than teenagers. It remains formally adventurous and frequently exhausting. Choose it for the filmmaking, not the plot.
Currently the best thing airing
The Pitt ran season two on HBO Max from January 8 to April 16, 2026, fifteen episodes, each covering one hour of a single hospital shift. It is a formal experiment that happens to be gripping. Noah Wyle anchors it and the ensemble around him keeps improving. It shares DNA with ER without being nostalgic about it. A third season is ordered with no date. Industry ran season four on HBO from January 11 to March 1, 2026, eight episodes. Young bankers destroying themselves in London, shot with the assumption that you will look up the jargon later. It shares The Wire's habit of treating an institution as the main character. It is the most cynical show on this page.
Paradise ran season two on Hulu from February 23 to March 30, 2026, eight episodes. It is a political thriller built on a premise that is much stranger than the marketing lets on, and it is best entered without reading anything. Sterling K. Brown carries it.
Your Friends and Neighbors ran season two on Apple TV from April 3 to June 5, 2026, ten episodes. Jon Hamm as a fired hedge fund manager burgling the houses of people who never notice. It is funnier than a drama usually is and sharper about class than a comedy usually is.
Big swings
House of the Dragon ran season three on HBO from June 21 to August 9, 2026, eight episodes, with a fourth season coming and undated. Three seasons in, the war has actually started, which is what most viewers were waiting for. It shares the Westeros machinery with Game of Thrones and improves on it in one specific way: the political positions are legible. Choose it if you gave up on the genre after 2019.
The Testaments premiered on Hulu on April 8, 2026 and finished its ten-episode first season on May 27. It follows The Handmaid's Tale, which ended in May 2025, and adapts Margaret Atwood's sequel novel. It is a lighter, more propulsive show than its predecessor, which will be a relief to some viewers and a disappointment to others.
BEEF came back on Netflix on April 16, 2026 with an eight-episode second season and a new story. It is an anthology now, so you do not need the first season, though the first season is superb and only ten episodes. It shares the premise that a small humiliation can unmake a person.
Coming before the end of the year
The Diplomat returns for season four on Netflix on October 15, 2026, eight episodes released at once. Keri Russell as an ambassador who is bad at diplomacy and excellent at crisis. Fast, talky, and much lighter than everything above it.
The Gilded Age starts season four on HBO on November 1, 2026, eight episodes. Julian Fellowes doing 1880s New York money, which is exactly what it sounds like and very good at it.
Two you will hear about that are not out
Severance has aired two seasons, in 2022 and 2025. A third is ordered, has no announced date, and was not part of Apple's fall 2026 lineup. The Last of Us season three is ordered with no date; season two aired in spring 2025. If you see a confident date for either, check the source.
Where to start
If you want the best drama airing in 2026, it is The Pitt. If you want a complete story you can finish this month, The Bear. If you want spectacle, House of the Dragon season three. If you want something short and self-contained, BEEF season two at eight episodes. And if you want a show that will make you angry in a useful way, Industry.
