Avatar: Seven Havens Is Out. Here's What to Watch Next
By Jordan A. · · 5 min read

Avatar: Seven Havens landed on Paramount+ this morning, October 9, with three episodes. You've probably watched them already. Now you're staring at a release calendar and wondering what to do with yourself until the next drop. We've got you.
Quick rundown of the show first, then what to watch while you wait, and a straight answer on whether you need to go back and finish Korra.
What Seven Havens actually is
It's the third animated Avatar series, from the original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, and it picks up 225 years after The Legend of Korra. The world has gone through a collapse. Civilization survives in seven walled havens, and the new Avatar, a young earthbender named Pavi, isn't greeted as a savior. People think she's the thing that broke the world. She's on the run with her long-lost twin sister Nisha and an airbender named Jae, trying to figure out where she came from and why everyone, human and spirit alike, wants her gone.
Saheli Khan voices Pavi, Aishu Devan is Nisha, and Dee Bradley Baker is back doing the animal noises, which is the most Avatar thing imaginable. Jeremy Zuckerman returned for the score too. The animation is by a French studio, La Chouette Compagnie, and the big setpiece city of Ellora is the one everybody's going to be screenshotting this week. Sunset colors, geometric streets, a South Asian design language the franchise hasn't leaned into this hard before.
Tone-wise it's still a kids' show on paper, but early reviews are calling it the darkest entry so far. Scarcity, paranoia, a militarized draft of benders. TV Guide gave it a 9.5 after screening six episodes. Those are big numbers for a franchise with this much history to live up to.
The release schedule, so you can plan
Three episodes dropped today. The other ten of Book One arrive in batches of three or four every Friday through October 30. That's the whole first season inside one month, which is generous by current streaming standards. A second 13-episode book is already ordered.
If you want a nudge when a new batch is up, add Seven Havens to your watch calendar on BingeNext and it'll remind you. No more checking Paramount+ on a Thursday night like it's 2014.
Do you need to have seen Korra first?
Honest answer: no, but you'll enjoy it more if you have. The rules of bending are easy to pick up cold. What you'd miss is the weight behind the world. When the show references the last Avatar's era, it's referencing a show you can watch in about 20 hours, and it's a good one. If you're starting from zero, our franchise watch order gets you through everything that matters in two series and skips the stuff that doesn't.
If you did skip Korra back in the day because people online were weird about it, this is your excuse. It's on Paramount+ and Netflix. Book Three alone is worth the ticket.
What to watch between episode drops
Everything below scratches a specific Seven Havens itch. Pick the one that matches yours.
The Legend of Korra is the obvious one and it belongs at the top. Four books, 52 episodes, the same creators, and the most direct bridge into Seven Havens's world. The spirit stuff that Pavi's dealing with started here.
Avatar: The Last Airbender if you've somehow never seen it, or haven't since you were ten. Sixty-one episodes, and it ends. That's rarer than it should be.
Blue Eye Samurai is where to go if what hooked you was the "hunted outsider with a secret" angle. Edo-period Japan, a mixed-race swordswoman on a revenge trail, and some of the best action animation Netflix has put its name on. Not for kids, though. Fair warning.
The Dragon Prince was co-created by Aaron Ehasz, the head writer on the original Avatar, and it shows. Elemental magic, a world divided by old grudges, and a group of kids who have to fix what adults broke. Seven seasons on Netflix, all done.
Arcane for the "gorgeous city, rotten politics" crowd. Two seasons, 18 episodes, and the animation is in a class of its own. If Ellora made your jaw drop, Piltover and Zaun will finish the job.
Infinity Train if you liked that Pavi's story is really about figuring out who she is. Four short books, each a different passenger working through something, on a train that's bigger on the inside. Weird and kind and over too soon.
The Owl House if you want the found-family warmth with a darker-than-expected back half. Three seasons, and the last one was famously cut short, which somehow made it hit harder.
Gravity Falls for twin siblings solving a mystery nobody wants solved. Two seasons, 40 episodes, and Pavi and Nisha would fit right in.
Delicious in Dungeon if you need something lighter in between. A party of adventurers cooking the monsters they kill, and it's secretly one of the best fantasy world-building shows of the last few years.
Or just tell BingeNext what you liked
Lists like this are a decent start, but they can't know that you loved the spirit world stuff and couldn't care less about the politics, or the other way around. Type in Avatar: Seven Havens plus two or three shows you already love and BingeNext builds a shortlist around your actual taste in about 30 seconds, with where to stream each pick across 50+ services. Three free runs a day, no account needed. It's also on the iPhone App Store if you'd rather do this from the couch.
Enjoy the first three. The next batch is a week out, and that's plenty of time for a Korra rewatch if you're honest with yourself about your evenings.
