Shows Like Reacher: 18+ Action Thrillers That Actually Deliver

Reacher knows what it is: a show about a massive, intelligent guy solving problems by being smarter and more violent than everyone else. If you want action shows that don't apologize for their pulp, don't overcomplicate things, and actually let their heroes win through force of will, we've got plenty to recommend.

One-Man-Army Action Heroes

The Punisher is darker and grittier, but it has that same appeal of a lone wolf doing what the system won't. Jack Ryan keeps the intelligence aspect but adds CIA intrigue - it's Reacher meets tradecraft. The Terminal List follows a traumatized SEAL who's hunting down his enemies. It's grim, methodical, and satisfying if you like revenge plots with competent protagonists.

Warrior is based on Bruce Lee's unused screenplay, and it's absolutely stunning. It's more martial arts-focused than Reacher, but the single-minded protagonist carving through a corrupt system is the same DNA. The Old Man is Reacher for the over-sixty crowd. Jeff Bridges as a retired CIA operative still kicking ass decades later. It's smart, and it doesn't require you to pretend old guys aren't competent.

The Night Agent is a more thriller-focused take on the lone operative trope, with government conspiracies and non-stop momentum. Trigger Point is a British bomb disposal thriller that finds tension in meticulous procedure rather than explosions.

Crime Investigation Thrillers

Bosch is the gold standard for this slot. It's methodical, well-plotted, and Harry Bosch is as close to Reacher as you get in a procedural - a guy doing things his way and getting results. Longmire has similar DNA: a stubborn law enforcement guy in a small town who won't play politics. Luther is a British obsessive detective show. It's darker and more psychologically twisted than Reacher, but the protagonist's refusal to compromise is the same.

Banshee is wildly underrated. It's basically Reacher in a small Pennsylvania town, with a con man taking over as sheriff. The action is brutal, the plot twists come out of nowhere, and it commits fully to the chaos. Justified is a masterclass in character-driven crime drama. Raylan Givens isn't as straightforward as Reacher, but his gunfighter morality is the same - solve problems, stick to your principles.

Cobra Kai might seem like an odd recommendation, but it's about solving conflicts through force and principle, and it escalates brilliantly over its seasons. NCIS works if you hit the good seasons (ignore the later ones). It's crime procedural with action beats.

Military and Ex-Military Heroes

Shooter follows a retired sniper pulled back into action. It has that same "don't poke the sleeping giant" energy as Reacher. Strike Back is a British-American special forces thriller that's unrelentingly action-packed. If you want Reacher energy but with a team, this is it. Peacemaker is a DC series about an absurd character who solves problems through violence and chaotic morality. It's funny, violent, and surprisingly charming.

Taken (the TV series before the films) is exactly what it sounds like. Bryan Mills is basically Reacher as a spy dad. Condor is a Cold War thriller based on the 1970s film, following an analyst who becomes a target. It's slower-paced but strategically brilliant.

Pulpy Fun with Brains

Banshee deserves a second mention because it's so good. Better Call Saul isn't an action show, but Jimmy McGill operates in a world where competence and principle collide exactly like Reacher's universe does. Berlin Station is a CIA thriller with espionage twists and solid pacing.

Homeland is where to go if you want Reacher's tension combined with complex character dynamics. The early seasons especially nail that paranoia and moral ambiguity. The Jason Bourne films are worth looping back to if it's been a while - Reacher owes a lot to Bourne's tactical, methodical approach to violence.

Wrapping Up

Reacher works because Jack Reacher is competent, principled, and relentless. These shows share those qualities in different flavors. Whether you want spy thrillers, crime procedurals, or just pure action, there's something here that scratches that itch.
