Premium is $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year, which works out to about $3.33 a month and saves 16% against the monthly plan. It removes the limits and unlocks the controls that let you steer the engine instead of only asking it.

What is already free

BingeNext is free to use. Without an account you get 1 recommendation per day; with a free account you get 3 per day plus 3 couple recommendations per month. All four recommendation modes, including the Mood Engine, are open to free users. You do not need Premium to try any of the four modes, and you do not need Premium to use the Mood Engine.

What Premium adds

• Unlimited recommendations. No daily cap, and no monthly cap on couple recommendations.
• Focus types. Apply up to 3 per request to steer tone, pacing and style, from slow-burn to mind-bending to musical.
• Maturity and release-year filters. Keep results inside the ratings and the eras you actually want.
• Completed-series-only mode. For people who refuse to start another show that might get cancelled.
• The dislike system. Titles you reject stay out of future recommendations.
• Bingeability insights. A read on how a series holds up across its run.
• Saved couple profiles and compatibility scoring. Keep both tastes on file and see how well a pick bridges them.
• Season premiere alerts and the watch calendar. Including a calendar feed you can subscribe to.
• An ad-free iPhone app. Free accounts see ads in the app; Premium accounts do not.
